Mens lines at Urbanminx.com
While http://www.urbanminx.com originally catered to the more feminine of our society, it has quickly grown to provide clothing to the more rugged individuals including those that play rugby anglophiles and those just wanting to look smart. As you will see below we lean heavily on the English for their amazing ability to mix sport with style and creativity with class.
Ben Sherman clothing is one of my favorite lines not because the man, Ben Sherman was the mod god but because I love the fit and style of their dress shirts. Ben Sherman {the man}, started making shirts from a small back street factory in Brighton went on to dress the sixties and became the "king of Carnaby Street". The Ben Sherman clothing line now consists of dress clothing, casual clothing, shoes, accessories and lifestyle clothing. We focus on the dress shirts and the shoes but do not let us limit you. Ben Sherman has a very thorough line of eclectic and elegant clothing.
Mod comes to the US in the 2007 Merc London collection. Merc London has had its finger on the pulse of mod for over 40 years and is still on top with their mod tees and mod long sleeves. Refer to the blurb from the Merc London website – “Mod fashion transcends decades. Smart looks from different eras meld. Metamorphose and shape the styles of today. Nobodies finger is more on the pulse of what was and what will be, than Merc of London”. English Laundry shirts and designs have been gracing the UrbanMinx.com pages since we opened, well before the current craze occurred and made English Laundry a household name. The shirts are based on selected English stripes, plaids and solid poplins from the 1960's and 1970's era. The product is hand sewn and each shirt is individually laundered for fit and comfort. The whole concept of English Laundry is "Elegant, ARROGANT, English" and is to be worn mainly with Denim, and never...under any circumstances, with a tie.
The Fred Perry clothing line, named after its founder and namesake Fred Perry the infamous tennis player, has been around and selling strong in England since the 40's starting out as a sport's wear line and being picked up in the 60's by the mod's. Eventually the style became ingrained in our culture and the line continues to be a top performer. As the Fred Perry web site states - "Fashions may come and go but style is timeless". We like the fact that the classic preppy chic style will never fade from our society and that UrbanMinx.com carries items that will make you look sharp for years to come.
The Lonsdale clothing line, with its roots in organized boxing, is a sports oriented line of tees, hats and shirts with a common British theme running though the seasons. Lonsdale was originally founded in London England in 1960 and produced boxing equipment before branching out into sports and fashion clothing. Lonsdale clothing receives its name from the eponymous Hugh Cecil Lowther, Fifth Earl of Lonsdale. Lord Lonsdale organized boxing matches in 1909 and was president of the National Sporting Club of Britain. Every boxer who became a champion and defended his title successfully three times received the Lonsdale Belt. Bernard Hart, an ex-boxer, visited the Lord in the 1960’s and asked for permission to use his name for a clothing brand targeted towards boxers. In 1979 Pail Wller of the band The Jam bought some Lonsdale- Tee Shirts and provided the brand with a good image, as a result of which also non-athletes started wearing the clothing. In the 80’s and 90’s Lonsdale clothing found favor particularly with skinheads, punks and mods. Lonsdale articles have been worn by many famous boxers, including for example; Mike Tyson, Henry Cooper, Muhammad Ali and Lennox Lewis.

The dirt on skinnies
Skinny jeans can be scary.
We've seen how they look on Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Then we look in the mirror and say, "yeah right," and decide to hold our breath and wait for the trend to be over (faster than those peasant tops that had you're grandma excited you were pregnant). Here's our advice: EMBRACE THE SKINNIES. You don't have to be, in fact, skinny.
