Sky Clothing: Recipe for a Beautiful Woman

The Recipe: Take 1 Beautiful Woman. Add a generous helping of confidence, a cup of sex appeal, and a sprinkling of pure femininity. Combine it with a Sky top or dress and you have an “it” creation. The Sky look is consistent: Sky clothing features a daringly deep v-neckline plunging into (and slightly beyond) a strategically placed belt that sits just below the bust line, empire style. Said belt isn’t actually a real belt, per say, but a little half belt that is sewn onto the front of the garment. This is ingenious in that it adds definition without bulk and prevents the down-to-there neckline from actually being down-to-there. It also provides the designers with a myriad of style options without deviating much from what has proven to be an extremely flattering look. You can buy Sky tops with belts bejeweled for bringing on the bling, in gold chain mesh, or adorned with sparkling butterflies. There is even a top featuring a little belt decorated with a horse head outline for those with an equine bent.
The typical Sky design is also a favorite for the feel and fall of the fabric. The softest cotton skims lightly over the stomach area, alluding to the perfection that lies beneath even when not so perfect. Any women concerned with the feminine curve of her stomach can wear Sky with confidence knowing only her best assets are visible.
Considering the plunging neckline, many Sky wearers add their favorite camisole when modesty is a necessity. Otherwise, wear with pride!

Lreggings Trend: Friend or Foe?

After so much hype around skinny jeans and footless leggings, it seems the tight-bottoms-under-tunic-tops look has finally fallen – sort of. If you’re sick of the herd mentality towards tights under dresses and extra long shirts that barely scrape your bum, then you’ll be pleased to know that it seems the 80s flashback to leggings has finally moved on. But if you abhor the skin tight look, unfortunately you’re not out of the water yet. In the place of leggings comes this winter’s newest trend – treggings.

A combination of leggings and trousers, treggings are like spray-on pants in slightly thicker fabrics than your typical tights. Scary news for anyone not a size zero, the trigging trend is meant to be worn without the long tunic top. Yes, your bottom will show. Made from materials like Lurex and leather, designers stepped away from denim and skinny jeans to offer women something more comfortable to slide into. But unless you’re already used to shaking your stuff in spandex on a daily basis, treggings seem to offer little respite.

Classic twigs like Kate Moss and Mary-Kate Olsen have already picked up on the trend; MK has even begun adding the new style to The Row, her sister act clothing line. And while treggings are meant to be slightly looser and thicker than leggings, the flashy velvet and sequined fabric they’ve been appearing in does little to minimize your downside.

If you’re brave enough to test the new trend, make sure you choose long treggings that bunch loosely around your ankles and offer lots of stretch. Choose thick fabrics and dark colors – stay away from patterns and bold colors. Keep in mind that this trend looks best on the long and lean; if you have curves stick with a tunic top and heels.

Monarchy Collection for Spring 2008 looks punky prep

We love Monarchy Collection’s designer denim and duds for their subtle detailing and intricate designs. Enticing graphics flow across most of their men’s tops, and Monarchy Denim features Soutash and British pocket embroideries.

Just off the runway from Los Angeles Fashion Week, the Spring 2008 Monarchy Collection maintains the brand’s look of sophisticated destruction while losing some of the more industrial elements seen this fall. Their spring show softens the style by mixing an air of prep-school standout with punky dropout. Aside from the occasional leather corset and flouncing denim skirt, the clothing is almost genderless: Men wore soft purple sweaters and ladies sported grunge belts and ripped denim. The only real differences seemed to be fit – guys looked casual and relaxed in their loose-cut apparel while the women sported styles that were slim and snug.

Country club sweaters, polos, and pinstripes shared the stage with Mohawks, distressed denim, and leather boots. Men’s collared shirts, vests, suspenders, and scarves were common fare throughout the show. Some pieces like the ladies linen Daisy Dukes and leather girdles might not fair well off the runway, but a solid assortment of jackets, sweaters, and denim staples will likely wear well this spring.

G-Star Clothing is Raw for the Winter

We’ve recently taken quite a liking to G-Star. The G-Star brand, along with G-Star Raw and G-Star denim originally appeared in 1989, but they’ve really pushed the fashion scene this season. Offering essentials like jeans, tees, and jackets, G-Star products are anything but basic. Guys beware, these duds aren’t for little boys.

The pieces seem heavy and industrial; after all, it’s “Raw.” As a brand G-Star has always pushed for innovation and experimentation in the fashion world. We’ve seen the G-Star jackets and sweaters appeal to men across the ages. Their tops focus on detail in the design and offer an edgier image. The tees are soft and intimate, the jeans are sturdy, and the jackets are industrial. With a variety of dark hues and heavy materials, here at UrbanMinx we think this season’s lineup of G-Star clothing is a perfect fit for the winter.
