Ask Anton

Dear Anton,

My lips are getting pretty chapped in the cold winter air. Do you have any products in your beauty bar that might help?

Emily

Emily –

I hate chapped lips and am a personal fan of lip balm. We get a lot of lip service here at the beauty bar, and I’d love to recommend some products to help you out of the winter blues.

To get rid of the flaky dead skin, try Lip Scrub for exfoliation. They’re perfect for the winter because they come in a bunch of yummy flavors like peppermint, cocoa, and cinnamon sugar. Next, swipe on some Napoleon Perdis Lip Lacquer as part of your daily beauty ritual. This shiny gloss protects your pout with a moisturizing blend of avocado, jojoba, chamomile, and hazelnut oils. It heals your soreness with Vitamin E and Kukui Nut, and will protect you from the sun, surf, and winter wind. Finally, slap on some Sorbet Lip Delight from MOR each night before bed. You’ll love the sweet smell and this lip balm will offer you intense lip protection.

Ask Anton

Dear Anton,

I have a shimmery gold colored dress for Christmas parties. It’s already pretty flashy – what should I do about my makeup?

Lizette

Howdy Lizette,

Merry Minxmas to you! I’m totally ready to rock the Christmas parties too; only two more weeks until the big day! Golds and silvers make awesome party frocks this season; metallic tones are so big right now! I’m loving the simple dresses from Michael Stars in lame gold and steel silver: at UrbanMinx we have the Ava Dress, the Layla Dress, and the Abby Dress. But if you already are shining like a star, you don’t want to go overboard with the makeup.

Use a matte lipstick in deep red or burgundy. Line your lips first with a pencil two shades darker than your natural color, then fill in the lips with the same pencil. Go over with your lip color, and skip the gloss. You’ll get a deep rich pout that screams siren without stealing the show. I recommend the Napoleon Perdis Lip Patrol in Corporal Drama or Sergeant Deco.

Keep the rest of your face neutral, and highlight your eyes in smoky shades of grey. Try a charcoal, chocolate, or navy liner mixed with a dusky colored shadow. Don’t use anything with too much glitz and glam – one metallic sheen is gorgeous, too many will make you glow like a treasure chest.

The important things to remember when doing your face are Matte and Dusky – stay away from Dewy and Bright. Follow those tips and you’ll be the star of any Christmas party!

Jumper Style

How To Wear Hot trends in all seasons!

Last spring, the fresh jumper look beckoned from the pages of your favorite fashion mag, tempting you to find one to call your own. Upon purchasing, you happily pranced your way through summer in schoolgirl style but promptly packed it away in summer storage so as not to freeze your assets off when summer faded.

Well, unpack that box because the Urban Minx’s are here to help with a crop of fresh jumper looks for winter.

For those who missed the spring magazines, let me help you. A jumper is a sweet and innocent dress that is reminiscent of the pinafores worn as children. Imagine this: wide straps, modest neckline, girlish look, loose-fit, and oh-so-short skirt. For the men, this is one style most of you find irresistible - that good girl/bad girl schoolyard look. Who can forget Britney’s “Hit Me Baby One More Time” video?

How to layer for winter: No fear! Pair simple and solid color jumpers with bold vibrant colors to avoid going overboard with the little-girl look. Avoid frilly and floaty shirts underneath as well. Don’t be afraid of mixing textures. If you desire an edgier style, contrasting fabrics are a necessity. The idea should be an outfit that, when put together, combines youthful style with womanly chic.

Traditionally, short hemlines are perfect for winter tights and leggings, even boots. Thanks to the ease of layering and the varying styles they can mix with, jumpers can be at once sweet and sassy, innocent and provocative. ---Michelle
