Haute Hoodies

Spring is upon us. Though the sun might now make a welcome round or two in your week, the weather is still probably a bit nippy, making the oh-so-cozy staple called the hoodie an entirely apt and fashionable way to brush off the last of winter’s chill.

The hoodie is in a state of constant recycle. Designers are daily coming up with innovative and hip new versions of this tried and true basic to fit every personality, with results which are decidedly vogue.

Seattle-based brand Prairie Underground has a firm handle on comfortable chic with their ¾ Cloak hoodies and form-flattering Prairie Hoodies, while Boy Meets Girl has turned their signature silhouettes into an adorable rendition of the style.

Hoodies are an ultra-comfortable way to make your fashion statement. Pick your perfect personality match with our extensive selection of hoodies here at UrbanMinx!

Tip to Toe Trend

I’m of the firm belief that just because a dress is long and covers your stems, doesn't mean it can't be sexy. After all, leaving something to the imagination can be awfully alluring, which is why I love the burgeoning maxi dress trend this season has been enjoying.

It’s no wonder that celebs like Lauren Conrad, Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, and Hayden Panettiere have all been spotted rockin’ maxi dresses. These dresses are simple and easy to throw on. The airy skirt still keeps you cool and they provide better protection from UV rays as an added bonus. I have to admit it’s quite refreshing to see a trend deviating from the high-exposure minis, short shorts and curve-hugging leggings normally seen when warmer weather hits.

Though maxis are pretty uniform in length, the style possibilities are endless. You can choose a simple style and accessorize to the nines, or pick a bold print to stand on its own. Brand new at UrbanMinx is the Rainforest Silk Halter Maxi Dress from Hale Bob - a favorite of Paris Hilton. The floral Remi Dress from Sky Tops is simply garden party perfect and Lotta Stenson's Drawstring Dress is all-over bold.

Leather and Lace – Victoriana leads NY Fashion Week

New York’s Fashion Week has approached its mid-cycle, and with more than 20 well-known designers — both established and rising— having sent their fall ‘09 collections down the runway, the trend of the season emerges. The stygian military looks of last winter have returned in full force (with G-Star setting the pace - think military cuts and drop-crotch pants with tough zipper details and faux-rivets), only this time infused with the romance of gaslight Victoriana.

Manifested in lace-heavy looks, velvet, and draped dresses, the trend was most favoured by top designers like Diesel, which featured slightly undone grunge looks heavily based on lingerie and corsets. Max Azria with their nearly all-black collection boasted positively bondage-esque with sheer designs bedecked with opaque ribbons and a truly Victorian edge.

Other steady themes of the week have been metallic fabrics, leathers, and embellishments. Pants have been higher-waisted and trim. There has been an emphasis on the waist - cropped, nipped-in jackets and second-skin dresses with the curious contrast of heavy ruffles and shoulder pads.

Putting the Art Back Into Design

Lauren Moshi design and clothing is the hottest thing to hit Hollywood this year, and with good reason: the brand offers wholly unique and imaginative tops, tanks, tees, and hoodies, each painstakingly hand-drawn by artist Lauren Moshi and printed on exquisite fabrics.

Lauren Conrad was seen in this Burnout Skull Rose Tank by Lauren Moshi while out with her friends to film a new episode of The Hills in Los Angeles this fall, and has also been spotted in the Black Peace Tank and Elephant Tank Top – a fine example of the addictive properties of these one-of-a-kind designs.

UrbanMinx has latest wearable art from Miss Moshi. Click here to enjoy it practically fresh from the sketchpad.
