The Beauty's in the Details

Often in style situations, its the little things that will carry you a long way. See how some of our favorite designers are perfecting the art strutting the small stuff.

Ruffles are rarely edgy, but the exposed zipper at the back of the Bailey 44 Royal Excess Dress creates a sort of raw appeal. Combined with swaying tiers of jersey fabric, the effect is a look sharp enough to cut diamonds.

Bailey 44 hits two for two with their Reign of Terror Top. The simple tank design gains dimension and detail with the addition of hidden silver-tone snap buttons lining the first and second layer.

As if the intricate and richly coloured floral pattern which spreads across this Sledge Daisy Top wasn't enough to draw admiring eyes, this piece also sports a unique crinkled texture to add a subtle sweep of shadow and light.

Bronze rivets boldly stud the back pockets of this Billy Jean, each rivet stamped with the True Religion logo and distressed for a distinctly rugged design in mind. The detail is a small one indeed, but still manages to cast a hard-knock glamor that's hard to shake.

You can always rely on Kische for their lush little details, and their Romantic Button Top is no exception. A lace panel perches with fair prominence at the neck, but the real romance is tucked along the sleeves in sets of dainty, cloth covered buttons.

Wedding Belles

Wedding season is on its way and the invitations are out. For the gals who are scrabbling to find the perfect garb for the occasion, UrbanMinx has compiled a guide to walk you through some of the more conventional wedding themes and their corresponding wardrobes.

A Black Tie Affair Picture red roses and white wine, big band tunes and ballroom dancing. You’ll want the lines of your ensemble to be elegantly understated but keep that basic little black dress in the closet. The classic cut has be revamped to carry a sort of bantam personality, with details that are subtle but sure to make a statement. Go bold with a liquid fringe as in Sheri Bodell's Show Stopper Dress, or choose a fun vintage flip like this V-Back Dress from Twelfth Street. Avoid any accessories that might be too loud, but don't be afraid to include a flash of colour like this Avant Garde Royale Ring in Red or a small metallic clutch like this Silk Beaded Bag from Santi.

Storybook Romance Almost every girl dreams of her fairytale wedding, and some stick to that plot to the very end. This theme warrants soft lines and and even softer shades. Ruffles and lace definitely make the guest list. Bailey 44's Flame and Flower Dress is a feminine frock that will go unrivaled in grace. Allen Schwartz offers the Asymmetrical Flower Dress is sure to inspire love at first sight with it's charmingly organic structure and floral rosettes. The old world style of Elizabeth Ngo's Ornate Victorian Ring will be like frosting on the cake. Leave the glass slippers to the one walking down the aisle and pick something sweet like these Poetic License Mint Julip Sandals.

Garden Party The bridal party set to this theme should never be garden variety, so have a bit of fun with your formalwear. Watercolour florals are thriving on the runway this spring, especially those in summer brights like Hale Bob's Watercolor Floral Dress. This lush patterning draws the eye without being abraisive. If your tastes veer more toward the clean club look, consider the pristine lines of something like this Bead Sweater Dress by Laundry. When dealing with floral patterns in accessories, it's best forgo any other patterns in your attire, and vice versa with a non-printed dress. White heels like BCBG's Lassie Sandal in Bleach will put you in neutrally stylish territory.

Mod Marriage While the traditional wedding is still running strong, we're now seeing more and more avant garde ways of tying the knot, including this ultra-modern take. Ditch the conventional formal frock for something with bold and innovative detailing. Black Halo's Jackie O Cut Out Dress is classic meets cutting edge with it's daring exposure points. The Risking It All Dress by Bailey 44 features a fun yet formal look with an oversize bow to detail its otherwise simple silhouette. Your jewelry should be just as audacious. A layered piece like this MAYA'Z Multi Chain Necklace has the same mixed media feel as the rest of your attire should.

Bliss on the Beach Those who lean toward tropical tastes will love this look. Your attire should be relaxed, but not quite casual. Try to capture the mood by incorporating flirtatious beachy elements like the like those in this lush Bordeaux Linda Maxi. The print is fun, but the length still maintains the appropriate amount of formality. Brights also offer a tropical slant. This Ombre Sleeveless Dress by Max & Cleo is washed with waves of rich colour, and brings to mind the romance of a sunset wedding. Jewelry should be minimal - it wouldn't do to be too dolled up for this event. Opt for something simple yet graceful like these Juicy Couture Filigree Drop Earrings, and a pair of dress sandals like Yellow Box's Blink.

Staff Pick: Couture Aweigh

Summer is all about sun, sand and sailor chic! This Juicy Sailor Short finds its roots the nautical uniforms of the 1940s and has a quirky vintage vibe in its saucy silver buttons and cuff details. Wear it over your favorite retro bather or with a tailored shirt for day wear.

The short is paired here with Twisted Heart's Jewel Wedge in Navy for a kind of laidback luster, but you can easily play this piece up with a pair of swanky heels like the Lassie Sandal in Bleach from BCBG or a bright flat like Dolce Vita's Olive Patent Flat in Red.

Runway Revolution

We're all familiar with the heavy-set military trends that hit the runway once the winter months come, but it's a rare thing when the style takes on a summer look with any success.

Yet Bailey 44, a brand known and celebrated for their application of avant-garde themes to every fresh collection, has managed the look with the innovative grace that every Bailey 44 fan has come to expect.

Centered around a romantic take on the French Revolution, Bailey 44's newest spring/summer collection is saturated with military touches that feature complex cuts to add a modern twist. Ruffles are also a major detail, tucked in to add a feminine touch to the bellicose buttons and artfully exposed zippers.

New Bailey 44 items are arriving at UrbanMinx every week, so check back often to get your fashion fix!

The Boyfriend of Your Dreams

Lucky Magazine seems to be just as enamored with the boyfriend jean as we are! Featured on the cover of their most recent June '09 issue is the Red Engine Boyfriend, which is the same loose-fitting style we've all come to adore on celebs like Jen Aniston and Katie Holmes, only in a medium dark wash that helps flatter curves and gives every ensemble a look that's clean and pristine.

Your Spring Must Haves

Ready to jump-start your spring wardrobe? We’ve carefully selected a choice list of all the best trends for Spring ‘09 that will not only flatter your figure, but you’ll be able to easily incorporate these pieces and trends into your daily ensemble without looking like you’re trying too hard.

The Boyfriend Jean Spring’s must-have silhouette is definitely the boyfriend jean that Sarah Jessica Parker and Katie Holmes have made popular. This cut is loose at the hips, then tapers delicately above the ankle. This new style is not be confused with mom jeans! Look for low rise pants that fit well around the waist and in the butt. The pants should ease into a loose fit through the hip and thigh before tapering down to the ankle.

The Statement Clutch This is a trend that a girl can really have fun with, and the name says it all. A bold clutch will be the best finishing touch to any ensemble this spring, so make your statement one that's sure to be heard. Go for one of the gorgeously bright spring hues like this that have been hitting the runway, or a standout pattern that compliments your outfit.

Roaring 20’s Fringe Don’t even bother going to a posh party unless your dress just drips with fringe. This amped Sheri Bodell fringe style was plucked from the 20’s and revamped into a modern flapper look. Don’t underestimate the need for long, lean legs or some saucy heels to really rock this trend.

Burnout Basics This refreshed vintage style can be found in just about every celebrity wardrobe and it should be a part of yours too! Its colors, cuts, and styles are only limited by imagination, but they key piece to have is the basic white tee. Clean and simple, the basic white burnout can be dressed up or down easily with the right accessories and can serve as the center for an endless array of outfits.

Max It Up The age of the mini has passed for the moment. Now we're seeing the long flowing look of the maxi dress lining up the beaches and boardwalks. Despite the often relaxed and voluminous character of this style, it's great for creating a slim silhouette, and can be worn by anyone. The maxi is also a versatile enough piece to carry you from day to night with ease.

Metallic Footwear This is an easy way to give your outfit that little extra flash. A spot of shine will do wonders, whether it's pewter, bronze, silver or gold. A metallic sandal like Bernardo's Spring will essentially go with every outfit so that your wardrobe and your wallet feel the benefits.

Costume Couture Chunky jewelry isn’t just limited to nights out on the town or formal dress. This type of jewelry can also be used to spice up a simple outfit of jeans, heels, and a choice top. So whether you want to go all-out glam or dress up a casual outfit, chunky jewelry can be the finishing touch you need.

The Shorty Who wears short shorts? Everybody! There's nothing like hitting the beach with the sun shining on bare skin and the shorty helps you soak it up to the fullest. The 7 for All Mankind Shorty pictured here has a definitely beachy look to it with its raw hem and heavily distressed wash.

Flip Side A good flip flop will carry you through the summer in comfort. A fantastic flip flop like celebrity favorite Havaianas will carry you through countless summers in comfort and style. You'll want to get a Havaiana in every color because these sandals are far too fame-worthy to wear anything else. Also check out Twisted Heart's rhinestone beauties. Who knew a flip flop could exude such glamor?

Not-so-Skinny Mini The classic mini was given an update this spring in favor of a style fuller than the posh pencil skirts seen previously. Layered ruffles and robust tiers of fabric are only a few of the many variations made popular on recent runways. Wear a slim fitting top with this particular style or else risk looking like the Michelin Man.

Hudson High Life

Jeans
probably seem like a forgettable facet of your daily wardrobe. If that’s the case, you’re probably not wearing the right pair.

Finding the right fit and wash can do wonders with even the most casual of ensembles, though it can be difficult to locate both elements in one jean. Luckily, Hudson Jeans has done all the work
for you!

Each Hudson wash carries depth and a careful attention to detail that flatters the impeccable cut - and in turn - your figure. Between the pages of Vogue’s May 2009 issue, Gisele Bundchen confessed that she considered her Hudson jeans to be “the best in the butt, at the moment.”

Gisele is only one of many in the devoted Hudson following. Others include Anna Kournikova, Selma Hayek, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Aniston, who is pictured here in the brand's new summer-friendly crop, the Gabby Cuffed Flood Jean in DHA. The Gabby has also been featured in Elle Shop's denim guide in their selections of the "very best new jeans." Capture a bit of star style and pick up your very own Gabby Jean here at UrbanMinx.

Fresh Faced Beauty with Napoleon Perdis

We all love to play with the outrageous trends that spill from the runways, but in the end, what every girl wants is that born-beautiful look that graces the face of almost every red carpet starlet when spring rolls around.

You can achieve this look with grace and time to spare. We've compiled a few helpful how tos on how to go au natural, using the award-winning products of cosmetic guru Napoleon Perdis.

Skin:
Every artist knows that the first step toward a masterpiece is to prime the palette. Start with the application of a good base like the Auto Pilot Skin Primer. You’ll want this base to look as even as possible, which can be managed with a dab of the China Doll foundation on any area where skin looks blotchy.

Eyes:
Dewy eyes are achieved by applying a light but warm-toned shadow over your makeup-free eye, from your lids up to brows, as well on the inner corner; Desert Sand Pearl Eyeshadow or something slightly peachier, such as Champagne, is the ideal shade. One coat of Long Black Mascara in Chocolate Brown on upper and lower eye lashes will make your eyes pop. A line traced above your lower lashes with a white Eye Pencil will make them absolutely dazzle.

Cheeks: For glowing cheeks, grab a big blush brush and apply a fine blush, from the apples of the cheeks and up to your temples. Make sure to blend so it looks natural. Using a Color Disc in Misty Plum will give you that slightly violet tint that has been so hot on the spring runways.

Lips: The colour of the moment is a lush coral. A light coat of Gloss Patrol in Paris carries plumping power and shine, as well as that subtle bee stung look.

Get Your Glow On

Research tells us that it’s better to ditch the dangerous tanning beds and make sunscreen our best friend, but that doesn’t mean we have to forgo that golden glow when summer rolls around!

Self-tanners have never been celebrated for their subtlety, and for good reason. Use usually results in unnatural-looking streaks, and worse – carrot coloured skin.

But ModelCo has finally created the first ever self tanner that puts an end to stained hands and uneven coverage. Tan Airbrush in a Can is like your own personal airbrush, and goes on as a fine mist leaving you with a smooth, natural tan. Once you spray your skin you are left with a nice bronze color that develops into a beautiful gold without a hint of orange. It also has a great cocoa butter scent and your skin is left smelling sweet instead of chemical.

For a more temporary tan there's the Bronze Airbrush Sun, and the Meringue will give you that extra luminous glow while it tones your skin! You'll also want to try ModelCo's Self-Tanning Glove, which contains the exact amount of tanning solution you'll need in one handy little glove.
