You love your new fall cashmere, but how are you going to keep it looking soft and stylish all season long? Cashmere should be a precious staple in your wardrobe – that one perfect sweater you can throw over any outfit or that so-soft dress for days when nothing else feels right. Now that you’ve found the perfect new addition to your closet, learn the right way to take care of it and you’ll be slipping into soft cashmere season after season.
Washing
The labels on most cashmere pieces say “dry clean only,” but hand washing your sweater will make it softer over time. Use warm to cool water with your cashmere knits, and choose a delicate soap like baby shampoo or Woolite detergent. Once the sweater is washed, place it on a dry towel on a flat surface. Press out excess water by rolling the towel; never wring your cashmere. Reshape it, and then let it lay flat to dry. Keep it away from direct sunlight to protect the color. Flip the sweater once to let it dry evenly. When you’re down, fold your sweater to store it. Never hang a cashmere piece, as the hanger will cause shoulder puckers and the gravity will alter the shape of the item. If you must dry clean your sweater, wait until the end of the season.
Moths
Your least-favorite closet friends are attracted to food particles and sweet morsels. To keep moths away, be sure and wash your cashmere sweater or dress before storing it. If you’re worried about bugs, keep your cashmere in re-sealable plastic bags or airtight bins. Add repellents like cedar or lavender to keep your clothing fresh and moth-free.

Minnie Rose
Cashmere Duster
A high-quality cashmere piece should last for years if you invest care in its keep. When choosing your garment, pull gently on the sides. When you release, a quality cashmere sweater will retain its shape; a loosely knit piece will stretch out. Cashmere is hair, and softer is always better. A course or fuzzy piece is of lower quality, and darker dyes will distress hair fibers more, making the texture rougher.

Twig
Roll Neck Dress
We look for the highest-quality cashmere available and only carry pieces we love wearing ourselves. Some of our favorites? Cashmere sweaters and dresses by Twig feel stunning and have eye-grabbing retro cuts. LA Made has some amazing cashmere hoodies for a casual feel, and Michael Stars always offers classic cashmere pieces that are perfect for any outfit. And of course, Minnie Rose has everyone’s favorite cashmere dusters.
