Banishing Bulk

The September issue of Vogue saw celebs dishing on what to wear when it comes to basics with Glamour stylists giving pro tips on everything from leggings to office appropriate boho attire.

One tip we feel we can't live without this fall is that of pulling off the baggy look without losing shape (keeping one element of your ensemble on the slimmer side).

The ideal look is shown using bag cropped boyfriend jeans, a Juicy Couture fitted blazer, and a Splendid tank to go underneath.

Still worried about getting lost under baggy layers? Shop Cashmere at UrbanMinx to stay warm without the bulk.

The Boyfriend of Your Dreams

Lucky Magazine seems to be just as enamored with the boyfriend jean as we are! Featured on the cover of their most recent June '09 issue is the Red Engine Boyfriend, which is the same loose-fitting style we've all come to adore on celebs like Jen Aniston and Katie Holmes, only in a medium dark wash that helps flatter curves and gives every ensemble a look that's clean and pristine.

Lucky paired the Red Engine jean with a fitted top that featured a beribboned, slightly flowing style, but this boyfriend looks just as gorgeous with a feminine but woodsy flannel or a smart blouse.

His and Hers

Don't panic, having a boyfriend is not required in order to wear these jeans. But the term "boyfriend jeans" does refer to the over-sized, slouchy nature of men's jeans. We’re talking denim that is somewhat fitted in the hip and roomier through the leg, often worn and torn.

The key to working this style is choosing a pair that fits your body - not actually wearing your boyfriend's jeans.

Be sure to pick a pair that is straight leg and don't forget to roll them up. Vintage washes like that of the much sought after 7 for All Mankind Josefina Jean look great with practically everything. A darker wash like Joe's Jeans' Ex-Lover Boyfriend will give you a more streamlined look.

Pair your boyfriend jeans with a tight fitting tee-shirt or perhaps a slim hoodie. You don’t want anything too busy or billowy on the top at the risk of looking sloppy. Even a curve-hugging button up will look good with this jean so long as you can still show off your feminine features.

The best part about this trend is that it can be customized to fit your own personal style, whether you're classic in a crisp white shirt and chic BCBG heels, or the more playful in a basic tank and a chunky Bed:Stu belt.

In Which a Pair of Boyfriends is Perfectly Acceptable

Red Engine Denim has perfected the art of this season’s most sought-after style – the boyfriend jean so favoured by fashionable icons such as Jessica Simpson, Miley Cyrus, Meg Ryan, and Evan Rachel Woods. Most likely to the relief of your sweetheart, Red Engine’s Boyfriend Jean fits just like your gent’s favorite pair of oh-so-comfortable jeans you’ve been holding hostage.

This style is meant to be loose fitting and worn low on the hips for that relaxed “I wake up looking this good” look that we all strive for. Best paired with a slim fitting plain or vintage tee, the Red Engine Boyfriend looks great whether it’s cuffed or worn long. Pair it with a broad basic belt like BedĪ™Stu’s Staple Belt in Brown for a look you can take to the streets.

Also, keep your peepers peeled for 7 for All Mankind's take on the style due to arrive soon at UrbanMinx!
