Grey is here to stay!

One color trend we're seeing in preparation for Fall is the color grey. Grey is the perfect Autumn color and evokes thoughts of the Winter to come. It's also ridiculously easy to match with, and even bright pops of color look great under a grey cardigan!

If you want to jump aboard the grey train then we recommend the Pyramid Stud Cardigan in Heather by Central Park West, Disco Fever Cardigan in Charcoal by Charlotte Tarantola or the Color Block Cardigan in Black and Grey by Kensiegirl.

Try wearing a top like Raglan V-Neck Top in Sunsilk or Racerback Tank in White w Pocket, both by Michael Stars, to lighten up the look!

Mix it Up

Many fashionistas will remember their first toddling attempts at dressing, usually with disastrous results. Plaids were mixed with polka dots, hot pinks with kelly greens, and galoshes with your favorite tutu.

Believe it or not these eclectic constructions from your childhood are making a comeback. The contrasts aren't nearly so drastic, of course. Think less 'I fell into my closet' and more "It took an hour to look this random."

The trick is to find two contrasting prints within the same colour family (even having just one colour in common will work) . Usually it's better when one print in larger than the other, with the smaller print on the anatomy that you might want to minimize.

And don't forget that brights are in for the season, so don't afraid to go bold!

Ask Elyse: Cocktail with Class

Dear Elyse,

I plan on attending a holiday party at my office this year, but I'm not quite sure how to dress for the semi-formal event while still looking professional. Any ideas?

-Charlotte

Dear Charlotte,

I'm glad you asked. A lot of women make the mistake of overdoing it (in either direction) when it comes to office functions. Of course you'll want to save the sex appeal for a less professional setting, but dressing like you would on a normal work day isn't any fun either.

I suggest you draw the line right down the middle - aim for a cute cocktail dress with a moderate cut and an embellished cardigan as covering. The look is feminine and approachable while still maintaining a professional air. Keep your shoes classy, with perhaps a patent finish for that something extra.

Hope this helps,
Elyse
