Larger than life tees and tops are flooding the fashion circuits en force, often paired with  dark skinnies and equally slender footwear for a contrasting but balanced look.

With this look comes an air of distinct attitude, enhanced by the frequent rocker themes incorporated into the trend.

Fresh Neon Finds For Spring

What's Best for Your Body Type?

Part of being a fashionista is being able to dress your shape to its fullest potential, but you'd be surprised how few women know how to do just that. Here are a few helpful hints for basic body shapes to use as a guide.

Apple

A woman with a round-shaped figure has a generous bust, wider rib cage, a fuller back, generous middle, narrow hips, and slender legs. You have the legs that the pear and diamond shaped women would kill for. So show them off with styles that accentuate your narrow hips, and skirts that show off your legs.

When choosing tops, necklines like the v-neck, help to elongate and slenderize your neck. Avoid tops that are fitted, as they will only accentuate your larger middle, and keep the collars or lapels of your jacket narrow so that they do not draw any extra attention to your fuller bust. When choosing a skirt stay with something that is more fitted, like a pencil skirt, as it will accentuate your legs.

Hourglass

You can tell a woman has an hourglass figure when she has a bust, small bone structure, defined waist, curved hips, shapely legs, and sometimes a protruding bottom. You definitely have curves, so why not show them off?

Because you have a defined waist, drawing attention to your waist by wearing pants with a contoured waistband, belts, or wrap tops that sit just at your waist, is a great way to accentuate your assets. Stick with clothing that is semi-fitted as opposed to too fitted or tight. Stay away from oversized or baggy styles since they will overpower your bone structure.

Pear

Pear shaped body types have a slender neck, narrow shoulders, small bust, as well as a shapely waist, generous lower hips and full thighs. With your waistline being small and feminine, you should embrace styles that accentuate your assets.

When wearing pants make sure you choose flowing fabrics to de-emphasize your hips. If you are more of a skirt person, then straight skirts are your friend. Your upper body is your best asset, so wear semi-fitted and tailored tops; necklines like cowl necks and square necklines will help broaden your shoulders.

Straight

The straight body type is distinguished by an upper and lower torso that are equal in width, an average bust, large rib cage, undefined waist, flat bottom, and slender legs.

When looking for a suit jacket, try a longer jacket, as it will help lengthen your upper torso. Necklines that fall below your collarbone will help elongate your neck. Try straight tailored skirts, or skirts with a dropped waist; both will slenderize. Avoid belts, and gathered or pleated fabric at the waist, as they will accentuate your thicker waist.

Dear Tammy,

The Vavavoom is piece I'd want to wear right away too, but I think a tee with the wrong collar and composition might clash with the dress.

If you're going to opt for a tee I suggest wearing one with a neckline cut like and close to the same level of the top of the dress, with middling sleeves for the best balance. Also, if the fabric of the tee is too heavy it will look mismatched, so I recommend finding a tee with a similar spandex blend.

Instead of layering under you might try wearing a simple draped cardigan or cropped sweater over the dress - you'll be able to adjust to temperature changes with greater ease and it will give you a more cohesive look.

Dear Christa,

Some shorts can inspire some pretty cringe-worthy styles but these particular shorties are pure class and even offer a little wiggle room as far as what you can wear them with.

If you look at this Anna Sui ensemble or this Tommy Hilfiger version you'll see that the big spring trend is to go a little baggy up top. The shorts' fit will have a slender enough fit that you won't feel like you're swimming in fabric and looser cuts are always more forgiving to the female figure.

For a more collegiate air, choose something colorful and cropped close to your frame. This way you can tuck the top in for a cleaner lines. To avoid looking too buttoned-up, try layering it with a draped cardigan.

As far as colours go, that linen white will match with just about anything. Don't be afraid to mix and match!

What to Wear: The Dinner Date

If you're like me, you'll no small amount of time making sure your outfit is just right for a special night out (whether it's with a new beau or a tried and true love).

Of course every style differs when considering both the occasion and the individual, but hopefully this example above will provide a basis that you can build on to create your own personal look.

I picture the Shadow Roses Dress from Kensie a perfect medium for a date dress. It toes the line between sophisticated and sexy, and the sultry floral print is fun with a hint of mystery. Dear Abigail,

When it comes to bright colors my motto is 'everything in moderation.' Not only will it save you from looking like you've just crossed over from the red light district, but setting an eye-popping shade against more modest hues will make the effect all the more dramatic.

If you're used to a medium- to heavy-coverage foundation, opt instead for a tinted moisturizer that will lighten your look immediately. Blush should be understated and lips doubly so. Pinkish nudes are the current mode.

As far as your actual eyes go, make sure that the lines of color are clean and crisp to avoid the night-after look. Otherwise, go nuts. This trend is all about showing your colors.

Resolute Couture

There are some styles we wish had never surfaced, but alongside were a lot of fun trends to walk last year's runways too. Here's a list of what we think is cute enough to carry through to 2010:

Plaids: Put away the thoughts of burly lumberjacks and little houses on the prairie. Modern plaids are feminine and modern, often in lovely muted colours. The very epitome of casual chic, this particular trend was made popular by young starlets like Megan Fox and Miley Cyrus. Pair your plaids with classic blue jeans and pumps for a classic look.

Feminine Embellishments: Beads, sequins, rhinestones, and embroidery - the fashion world has fallen in love with frilly bits and we're never going back. Everything in moderation, of course. It's not recommended that you start swimming in Swarovskis, but small accents throughout your ensemble add a bit of old Hollywood glam.

Patent: Posh and polished, this is one of the hottest trends of the year. There's nothing quite as sexy as a girl in gloss. Spring style is taking a darker turn this year, so keep this edgy theme for future fashion dos.

Asymmetry: Off-balance is far from out. '09 saw an influx of sexy slants to classic styles and the skewed angle is still going strong, especially in evening-wear. Asymmetry is a simple way to create interest in an outfit and often has serious slimming capabilities when worn right.

Menswear for Women: Who knew androgyny could be so alluring? The balance has shifted and now the women are the ones wearing the pants. Fitted blazers, suspended trousers, crisp button-downs, and vests are all making an appearance. The trend still carries a feminine element with the subtle application of ruffles, statement accessories, and keeping with femme-friendly cuts, but this look runs strong on several levels.

Fashion Savvy

Nearly everyone has been affected by the dire state of the economy, and if you're like me, cash topped the list on your letter to Santa this year. But even if your funds are limited, there are ways to capitalize on solid wardrobe staples.

If you buy one thing this year, get a good pair of jeans. I recommend a medium wash bootcut easily matched with different colours. A bootcut is balanced enough to tie well into any top and shoe combo you can think of. Also, having one versatile jean will reduce closet clutter and they can be worn several times before needing to be washed (unless you take regular and muddy tumbles).

What to Wear: Date Night

Dressing for a date always depends on the occasion, but we've managed to put something together which will hopefully keep you covered in everything short of extreme skydiving.

The trick is to find that perfect balance between sexy, sophisticated, and sweet. The Velvet Burnout Halter from Hale Bob boasts all three elements with a sultry cut, decadent fabric, and sugar sweet pattern in pink. The trick is to find two contrasting prints within the same colour family (even having just one colour in common will work) . Usually it's better when one print in larger than the other, with the smaller print on the anatomy that you might want to minimize.

And don't forget that brights are in for the season, so don't afraid to go bold!

Far from fading out, the boho trend has gained some serious momentum. Boho can be built in a way which caters to each individual taste, but we've compiled an outfit which features our favorite facets of the look.

Love Your Leggings

For some women leggings are never a style option, but sometimes just knowing how to wear leggings makes all the difference between looking chic versus looking like an unfortunate fashion throwback.

If you like the ease of leggings, but want to make sure you always wear them appropriately, consider these tips:

• The simplest way for women to wear leggings is beneath a tunic. Tunics vary in length, so it's important that your tunic is long enough to cover your hips and behind. Your tunic top can be in sweater form or knit jersey material. If you're feeling a bit busty, a belt will work to balance your frame.

• Petite women should take care to make sure your top doesn't fall past your mid-thighs – anything longer will have you looking outsized. More monochromatic choices will help to elongate your frame.
  

• Tall women run the risk of wearing tops too short. Note that your be-legginged bum should not be exposed in any way.
  

• Leggings look best with flats or plain pumps, but ankle booties will give you a bit of attitude.

• Because leggings are so fitted, it's best to steer clear of tight shirts for the best look. These items work better when your overall outfit is balanced, pairing roomy with fitted.

• Dresses that fall at or above the knee can work with leggings. This is one case where a close-fitting dress would look good with leggings, such as a jersey knit dress with a wide belt at the waist.

• Always remember that your leggings are an accessory - not an outfit. Build your preferred outfit first, and add leggings after. Your leggings' color should match something else in your outfit for the most harmonious pairing.

Dear Corinne,

Though traditionally belts are used to hold up your pants, they can be used to add a bit of detailed style to just about whatever stocks your wardrobe.

More often than not, you'll want to wear your belt at your natural waist (that tapered point where your hips and ribs meet - not where the rise of your jeans ends), but sometimes you come across a belt that's meant to drape or dangle. These can be worn at the mid-hip and work best with a loose skirt or dress and a slim-fitting top in order to maintain definition at the waist.

With a shapeless dress a wider belt is recommended, lest you lose your figure in all that fabric. Skinny belts are best with slim-fitting frocks, providing a point of interest without pulling eyes away from the dress itself.

Slender girls can really work a skinny belt in their favor, wearing it high-waisted (about mid-ribs) over a button-up shirt or over a v-neck sweater or cardigan. Even a simple tailored tee can get an instant style update with a brightly coloured skinny.

With denim, belts can go both ways. If you want to go glam, grab something bright, or even metallic to lace into your look. An earthier style can be achieved with an understated leather belt that boasts a lot of texture, but stay away from big buckles that will widen the look of your hips.
