Seeing Red

The overall trend of the spring season seems to be raising the shock-factor - statement jewelry, sci-fi themes, and barely there sheers have all made an appearance, but using a concentrated punch of color in clever ways seems to be the way to go. Streets from New York to Paris have seen more and more stylers using red as an outfit game changer. Whether it's shoes, skirts, or little leather gloves, we loved how these women fired up their looks with an unexpected stroke of red. Best of all, red is a year-round classic, so this summer, swap your red suede pumps for a pair of simple red sandals, or pair that long red skirt with a silky tank.

Back in Black

Florals and saturated hues made our last fall fashion line-up seem unseasonably warm but now the classic drama of black has returned to the runways with refreshing new styles.

Strong themes among designers included the traditional military trends, silky gowns suited for silver screen starlets from the fifties, as well as heavy fur and feather textures that wouldn't be out of place in the more glamorous parts of Russia.

Belt it Out

Ralph Lauren 2010 Fall RTW

When this trend was first recommended to me I'll admit I balked a little; I just couldn't picture it. But now seeing it in action I can't wait to try it.

Just picture that baggy old last resort at the back of your closet - a bulky, shapeless coat that has been hanging there for time unknown but somehow you just can't bring yourself to get rid of it. Little did you know it's been lurking with hidden potential.

All that's needed for a fashionable face-lift is a simple belt to cinch that coat back into shape. Et voila! You're left with a chic silhouette and one more active addition to your wardrobe.

Try it out and shop winter coats and belts at UrbanMinx.

Mix it Up

Many fashionistas will remember their first toddling attempts at dressing, usually with disastrous results. Plaids were mixed with polka dots, hot pinks with kelly greens, and galoshes with your favorite tutu.

Believe it or not these eclectic constructions from your childhood are making a comeback. The contrasts aren't nearly so drastic, of course. Think less 'I fell into my closet' and more "It took an hour to look this random."

The trick is to find two contrasting prints within the same colour family (even having just one colour in common will work) . Usually it's better when one print in larger than the other, with the smaller print on the anatomy that you might want to minimize.

And don't forget that brights are in for the season, so don't afraid to go bold!

Where the Wild Things Are

The briefest of browses through the runway’s runaway looks will inform you that the animal print trend not only lives, but is still thriving in the wardrobes of the most noted trend-setters!

Too many spots will have you looking like an auditionee for a Broadway production of Cats, but a little touch of the exotic can enhance your look! Start small, with a choice handbag or a bold pair of shoes. This splash of print creates a look that’s subtle, but with that hint of fun and flair.

Trend Alert: Heading West

Footwear is a big part of the fall season. From patterned statement pumps to fringed booties, this is the time of year when designers go all out and have a little fun.

In the fashion forefront is a footwear trend that's a little bit country, and little bit... well, you get the idea.

Pictured right are Rachel Bilson, Hilary Duff, and Sienna miller all rocking the latest western boot frenzy. We're loving Rachel's bold red boot, but the classic brown and beige worn by Hilary and Sienna make for a classic fall look.

Trends Tipping the Balance

The asymmetrical neckline is proving to be a prevailing trend as more and more styles have been crossing recent spring/summer runways.

We’ve always felt that baring your shoulders with the asymmetrical angle is the classiest way to be sexy—you get to show some skin and display your femininity, but there's still a little left to the imagination.

Designers are taking the trend for a decidedly romantic turn this spring. Lines have been softened in favor of full curves and barely-there fabrics - a complete turnaround from winter's harsh geometric styles and heavy drapes.

Summer Styles Made Fall Friendly

While it's true that the weather is cooling down with the autumn months, that doesn't mean you'll have to surrender your favorite summer staples just yet. UrbanMinx has selected a handful of the top summer items that can keep you chic well into fall.

The Maxi- The maxi is the perfect warm weather piece, but because of its length, it's also easy to work into an autumn weather wardrobe. Switch out your sandals for an earthy looking boot like Old Gringo's Leopardito. You'll want to compliment the length of the dress with a long cardigan, and then balance out your body with a wide belt.

White Denim- This summer proved to be white hot, at least in the denim department. But this selfsame shade can also turn cool for the fall. Instead of matching it with summer brights, try darker shades of blue, gray, and black. Ditch the flip flops and instead opt for a sleek looking ankle booty.

Short Sleeved Styles- Count layering as your closest friend in this situation. Hardly limited to coats, you can really have fun when you layer your short sleeved styles with patterned undershirts like Splendid's Stripe Pullover or Pete's Henley Button Tee. For slightly more coverage, a cropped coat will do the job without overheating you.

Metallics- Metallics were the hot ticket last season, but its garish shine will have to be toned down as time goes on. Look to more muted metals, and only to accessorize, unless you've got brass enough to wear those outrageously gold leggings.

Jumpers-
Much like the maxi, jumpers are easily suited to every season. For shorter styles, try an oversized sweater or vintage looking jacket and pair it with ankle boots and tights for a cute boho style. Longer jumpers look slightly more elegant, and a medium length cover-up will keep you balanced and warm. A belt is optional, since the waist is more defined than would be in a maxi, but it could be just the thing to complete your look.
