How to Wear Cropped Bottoms

Cropped bottoms are a growing style trend and have been all over the spring runways. The tapered trousers and a straight cargo are very in right now and feel fresh and new. Unfortunately, this trend can look unfaltering and dated if not done right.
Leggy women can pull off the tapered cut, but should insure that that the crop hits low on the calf and slightly above the ankle. This will keep the look like purposeful and not like you have grown out of your pants.
Those with shorter legs or who are pear shaped are best suited with a straight cut or wide leg style. This will elongated and slim the leg. A nude heal will also help in this department!
If you have heavy calves, you can still work this trend. Just insure the crop hits at the smallest part of your calf as this is where the visual focal point will be. The smallest part of the leg will tend to be right above your ankle.
Alternatively, if you have thin calves a close fit cut is better suited for you making your legs look proportionate and shapely. A wide cut will only make you leg look scrawny.

If you're wondering what to wear with this cropped style, a flowing top is very of the moment. Chose a peasant top, loose tee, or ruffles. A jacket or blazer can be worn over the top and will perfectly nip in the waist.

All American Made Fashion

Being able to buy products made in America is a great feeling, and when I started to really look at the number of designer brands we carry that has their production done in the USA (either all or a percentage of their production) I was impressed. I know it's hard for lines to stay competitive by manufacturing in the USA and so I love it when they are able to. And you don't have to sacrifice fashion either! It's the best of both worlds. Shop our Made in the USA category for just some of the hundreds of products that we carry that are made in America. You can see brands like Bailey 44, 7 For All Mankind, Hudson Jeans, True Religion, Michael Stars and Sky that produce if not all then primarily in the US.

Denim: Dressed to Distress

Denim is a classic fashion staple that will never go away, but how can you recreate a classic to keep it from becoming old hat? Simple-- you don't recreate it you destroy it! Distressed denim is all the rage and adds a tough vibe to any cute or classy ensemble.

If you're really trying to play up the laid back look with distressed jeans then we suggest wearing the Laid Back Boyfriend Jean in Meteor by Rich and Skinny with a fitted tee or a slouchy sweater to get the full casual effect.

Want a more sophisticated look without looking stuffy? Josefina Crop in Vintage Port Lions by 7 For All Mankind looks great when paired with some killer pumps, white blouse and a cute cardigan.

Celebrating 5 Years of Minxiness!

In the July 27th, 2005 issue of the Mail Tribune, UrbanMinx was featured in a spotlight article titled, "Owner brings her knowledge of London fashion world to Ashland's style-wise young urbanites," and five successful years after the opening of well known boutique, this statement continues to be true, but with an even further reaching scope of clientele.

Owner, Melissa Walton, stated, "It's my vision to build relationships with people and overcome the tendency of people to see fashion as shallow. it has a big connection with your self-esteem. I work to see people get new-found confidence from a new look that carries through in their personality."

The boutique's success is no mystery as this positive vision has become a reality for an endless number of UrbanMinx shoppers. Many locals couldn't contain their excitement and graditude for a boutique carrying designer brands, like 7 For All Mankind and Juicy Couture, which were previously only available in the bigger cities or online.

Writer John Darling stated, "Walton believes she has tapped an enduring niche, the style-aware, younger urban woman (and man), showing up more and more in the Rogue Valley- people who want rags that sing "stylin!" but are casual enough to wear to work." And how lost would we all be without a dependable boutique in the Rogue Valley?

Come by UrbanMinx or browse Urbaminx.com to celebrate 5 amazing years of Minx fashion!

Ask Elyse: Downsizing

Dear Elyse,

I regret that I over-indulged a bit over the holidays so I'm looking to find a way to slim down my silhouette in time for New Year's. Any tips?

Thank you,

Breanne

Dear Breanne,

The holidays are all about going a little overboard, so you're not alone if you're still feeling that Christmas feast.

First off, I have to tell you that light colours are not your friend of the moment. Darker shades will always present a more slender silhouette. Also, opt for more forgiving (though not necessarily looser) fabrics with only a little extra stretch to them. This way your outfit will allow for a little wiggle room without letting it all hang out. I recommend ponte knit trousers like the 7 For All Mankind Bootcut in Double Knit Black or Tag's Stretch Knit Bootcut in Black.

The same rules apply for formal attire. Stay in the darker shades and avoid jersey knits. Dresses from Stop Staring! are cut in millenial fabric perfect for creating a sleek silhouette by sucking in all the right bits of your anatomy. If you're looking for something a little less clingy, opt for a dress in the empire style, which flatters the bust but makes sure your midsection only exists in imagination.

Lastly, heels always help. Not only will they encourage you to stand straighter (and slimmer), they will elongate your legs and give you a tighter appearance.

Hope this helps and happy holidays,
Elyse

The Better Boyfriend

Cameron Diaz, Lo Bosworth, and Nikki Reed all wearing the popular Josefina Boyfriend Jean from 7 For All Mankind

The Josefina Boyfriend by 7 for All Mankind was the hottest jean of the summer season. Seen on countless A-lister starlets like those pictured above, it has all the quintessential elements of a signature 7's jean in its singular comfort, cut, and versatility.

That last trait is truly coming through with the style carrying through autumn and well into winter. While the jean can still be worn rolled at the ankle, the look of the moment is to have them tucked into a posh pair of boots or sky high heels.

Create your look by shopping 7 For All Mankind's Josefina Boyfriend Jean at UrbanMinx.

The 7's Bell Bottom is her perfect go-to jean for work, play dates, and time with friends. The Bell Bottom is easy dressed up with a sexy Sky top and heels, or down with a basic Michael Stars tee. True Blood's Anna Paquin looks a veritable vamp in her 7 for All Mankind Dojo Shorts, worn recently while the starlet was out shopping it up.

Paquin's style selection is perfect for the day. A cropped cut keeps her cool in the remaining summer days while still warding off any autumn chill that might waft by, and the dark wash of the denim keeps it casual, but not looking careless.
