Staff Pick: En-trenched

Ashland Minx Allegra is all about the bellicose build of this Juicy Couture Ruffle Trench. Playful ruffles contrast and compliment military details like a belted collar and cuffs, as well as myriad zippers scattered throughout the coat to create a truly femme fatale facade.

Allegra loves the Ruffle Trench for its sleek, chic style and the beautiful detailing in the logo embossed buttons.

Diesel Downs

When the weather gets harsh there's nothing dreamier than a goose-down coat.

I know what you're thinking - you're probably imagining some stuffed monstrosity like the one seen swallowing the little brother Randy in A Christmas Story. Lucky for you the winter down coats of today have a much more fashionable and feminine taste to them.

Diesel offers their edgy take on the down coat with their new Gisil Jacket and Whiki Jacket. These coats are cut to cater to the female form without diminishing heat-packing potential.

You can get the puff coat in a gorgeous glossy patent or matte. Shop Diesel coats at UrbanMinx.

Proof is in the Pattern

In stark and welcome contrast to last winter's washed out whites and edgy, minimalist darks, this coming season's styles are an absolute roar of colour. Reminiscent of whichever eras you might attach the world 'golden,' the runways have turned flashy with a flood of pattern-rich shades.

More noticeable is the shift from the simple classic coat to its bright new cousin - detailed with anything from pretty lemon plaids to modish spots. A personal favorite is the flashback coat, cut in a relaxed vintage fit and printed in posh 60s shades.

If high-saturation hues don't tickle your fancy, the more traditional monochromes remain with a bit of a twist. For an updated look try a fun lined look or some high society houndstooth.

Power Hour

If the runways are anything to go by, the watchword for winter wear is strong, hence the theme in InStyle's October '09 issue. Inspired by US First Lady Michelle Obama (quite arguably the chief in power dressing), the mag features a spread of coats both classy and confident.

Among the hand-selected pieces is the Juicy Couture Double Breasted Coat in Angel. A broad (and not to mention bold) collar and smart buttons framed by tonal banding channel a stylishly plucky look that is the perfect accessory to a strong stride and chin held high.

A Taste for Tulle

Tulle is a word no longer limited to that gauzy stuff that goes under prom dresses. This is a line of clothing that hits the perfect mid-range between falling apart after twelve months and ridiculously, rent priced expensive.

Though they carry a full line of clothing, it's Tulle's coats that really have me checking my closet to see if there's any room left. I know it is only September and no one wants to think about the chill months of fall and winter, but we at UrbanMinx have been anticipating our first shipment of beautiful Tulle Coats, and they just arrived!

Bright colors and classic shapes that include lots of 1950s peter pan collars, a-line cuts, and bracelet sleeves in rich autumn hues (think ash, tomato, crème, and moss) make for a truly wonderful look. Even better, the prices are in the $80-$150.00 range. The only drawback is you'll have to shop elsewhere if you're looking for tutus.
